UMD Students

Music majors will take an hour lesson per week.  Music minors and non-majors may take half-hour lessons.

Juries:

  • Flutists enrolled as music majors or minors will perform a jury at the end of each semester. This performance is heard by woodwind faculty members and serves as the final exam for the course. In addition, juries are valuable performance opportunities during which constructive criticism is given to each student.:
  • During a jury, flutists will be responsible for their assigned repertoire and for scales or other technical work studied throughout the semester.
  • Advanced non-majors may be encouraged to play a jury also.
  • Making arrangements for a jury accompanist is the student’s responsibility and should be done in a timely manner (by mid-semester) to allow for adequate rehearsal time.

Recital requirements:

  • Music majors taking flute as their primary instrument must perform the minimum of a half recital their senior year.
  • Music majors are suggested to perform a half recital their junior year as well as a half or complete recital their senior year.
  • Students must be enrolled in lessons during the semester the recital is given.
  • Minors or non-majors may perform a recital with faculty permission.
  • Prior to the recital, the student must pass a recital hearing, during which faculty assess the student’s preparation and level of performance.

Private study

I enjoy working with students outside of the university curriculum!  Lessons are open to children and adults, beginners or advanced.  Please contact me if you are interested.
